PORT PERRY ARTISTS’ ASSOCIATION
HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY
In 2005, the PPAA established a bursary to be made available
to two local high schools, Port Perry High School and Cartwright High
School. Starting in 2006, each
school was given a $100 bursary to be awarded to a grade 12 art student
accepted or enrolled in a post secondary art course. The bursary was to cover the cost of art supplies. Students were required to apply for the
bursary and to submit original art work. Judges included the art teacher from
each of the schools.
In consultation with the Port Perry High School, teachers
agreed to choose the student based on criteria developed by the PPAA, namely
the student must have taken grade 12 art, have received a high mark and be
pursuing art after high school either at college or university. A
representative of PPAA would attend graduation to present the award.
Cartwright High School closed in June 2013. In 2017, the PPAA decided to allocate
the bursary previously granted to Cartwright High School to the Port Perry High
School thereby increasing the award from $100 to $200 to the successful
student.
